FILM EMULATIONS

Our film emulations are the result of extensive research and testing to capture the essence and “mood” of specific film models. Our intention is not to imitate the exact results of a specific printed or projected film emulsion, as there are too many variables involved in the overall process – from film exposure and development to digital scanning – to accurately reproduce the exact “look” you may remember or admire. Instead, we offer the mood of the film as captured in our profiles, giving you the freedom to enhance your image using your own creative vision while preserving that unique mood.

Our profiles are more than just presets, they are carefully crafted colour profiles designed to help you achieve the desired look and feel of the film. It’s important to keep in mind that our profiles serve as a starting point for your creative process, and the final result you see on your monitor will not be the final product. However, the flexibility and freedom our profiles offer when using them to enhance or reduce the mood of your image is a valuable tool in your creative toolkit.

Discover the joy of using our profiles, knowing that each one is designed to capture the unique mood of the film it emulates.

Here is a small tutorial to start!

Kodak Portra 160

The slowest of famous Portra family colour negative film. This film has been made specifically for portraiture and wedding photography. Medium contrast and low saturation with warm tones make this colour signature perfect for your daylight pictures as the starting point of your editing.
You will enjoy the skin tones and the great colours coming from this emulation. As 160 and slowest of the family, the grain is the finest.

Kodak Portra  400

This is the emulation of the legendary Portra 400, the excellent colour negative film.
This emulation is excellent for portraiture, wedding and general photography; as faster than the Portra 160 is incredible both for indoor and outdoor shootings having a warm tone reproduction and average saturation and contrast. The grain is bigger than the Portra 160 but still very fine.

Kodak Portra  800

This is the fastest colour negative film of the Portra family, the tones are warm, and the final colour signature is more contrasted and a bit more saturated than the Portra 400 film. The ideal use is on portraiture and general photography.
If you are a medium to vivid colour lover, this is your emulation, able to keep the contrasts of the Portra family and the great skin tones and also giving you some punch on the colour sides. The grain is a bit bigger than the Portra 400 for a perfect “vintage” reproduction and also an incredible texture feeling on your prints.

Kodak Ektachrome

This is the emulation of the famous Kodak Ektachrome slide film.
This emulation is ideal for portraiture, landscape and general photography; has a medium to high contrast, high saturation and a nice series of tones on highlights and shadows.
You will love the feeling of this preset on your editing process and the add of the fine grain is the cherry on top!

Kodak Ektar 100

This is the emulation of the Ektar 100 colour negative film.
Landscape and also general photography are the ideal genres for this specific emulation; strong colours, medium to high contrast and fine grain are the basic details and the nice tone on the shadows gives to that colour signature his charisma.
Daylight outdoor is where this emulation shine; the grain is superfine.

Kodak Gold 200

This is the emulation of Kodak Gold 200 colour negative film.
The emulation made from this specific film type is ideal for general photography having medium contrast , medium saturation and subtle tones for daylight and shade sessions. You will enjoy this colour signature for your general photography if you do like your family pictures inside your drawer!
The grain is medium sized.

Lightroom and ACR

Our emulations work using a preset made by :
-Colour profile
-RGB curves (on Tone Curve panel)
So you have a preset for each emulation set;  included are the specific colour profile and the specific RGB curves needed for the full fidelity and available for further editing for print or proofing.

Every emulsion has three different curves to enhance the flexibility of your favourite workflow:
Linear (linear information from the sensor with film emulation applied)
Flat (base exposure curve, no contrast added)
Standard (full exposure curve and contrast added)
sRGB output (full exp curve and contrast,  for gamut compression from ProPhoto to direct sRGB export)

sRGB output preset contain a special Lut for gamut compression from ProPhoto to sRGB. The gamut compression has been made with a particular perceptual intent in
CIECAM02. This is handy for when you need to have a direct output to this space and the photo has out-of-gamut sectors.

Capture One
